The First Day

As I walked into the first class I felt out of place. This is in part due to me looking onto the class site and noticing I knew zero names listed and partly the fact this is my elective and I come from an elementary perspective further ahead in the program then some of my peers and come with a different perspective. During this class today (Jan 9th) you spoke regarding the use of apps in the classroom. I have a positive view of apps and the use to easier connect with teachers, but I have not seen it from being on the other end and not knowing that it often faults and is poorly designed. I like and support the idea of using platforms that are available in many forms and browsers.
As you introduced the first SPTRB competencies, I was unaware that these competencies came from the SPTRB as the college only refers to them as TECC competencies. Each person identifies themselves certain ways and this is also true for teachers. In this profession we have certain criteria to follow from higher agencies such as the ministry and the SPTRB, though we are not bound to teach a certain way as long as we are achieving the end results in a professional manner as defined by the competencies. This gives teachers freedom to gain a professional identity that defines how they teach and why they may teach that way. These competencies also reflect teachers knowledge, instruction, and curricular competence.
As a teacher some characteristics that form my identity is my culture, my experience both as a student in primary school and secondary school and as a teacher candidate. As well my experiences in a professional world through jobs, extra-curriculars and volunteering. All these sources help me to gain a sense of the world around me and inside of me.
